About Kyle Monangai

Kyle Monangai, born June 6, 2002, in Roseland, New Jersey, is an American professional football running back currently playing for the Chicago Bears in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Bears in the seventh round (233rd overall) of the 2025 NFL Draft[1][5][6]. Monangai attended Seton Hall Preparatory School before transferring to Don Bosco Preparatory High School, where he excelled as a senior with over 900 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, and significant receiving yards[1]. He committed to Rutgers University, playing for the Scarlet Knights from 2020 to 2024. Over five seasons, Monangai became Rutgers’ primary ball carrier, amassing more than 3,200 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns. He set a school record for most career rushing attempts without a fumble, underscoring his reliability and ball security[2][4]. In his college career, Monangai steadily improved, culminating in a standout senior season in 2023 where he rushed for 1,262 yards and scored eight touchdowns, earning All-Big Ten Second Team honors and being named MVP of the 2023 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl[1][2]. He was recognized for his durability, vision, and balance as a runner, qualities that made him a durable and effective back in the competitive Big Ten Conference[2][4]. Beginning his rookie NFL season with the Chicago Bears in 2025, Monangai initially served as a backup to D'Andre Swift. He recorded his first NFL touchdown in Week 7 and later started in Swift’s absence, posting 176 rushing yards and 198 all-purpose yards in a single game, marking one of the best performances by a Bears rookie running back in recent history[1][7]. At 5'8" and 207 pounds, Monangai is noted for a powerful running style with a low center of gravity, making him effective between the tackles and in short-yardage situations. His early NFL contributions and college achievements position him as a promising young running back in professional football[4][6].
